NOVA SCOTIA, Oct. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - Most Canadians are familiar with The
War Amps internationally-recognized CHAMP Program for child amputees, but what
about the future? War Amps CEO and CHAMP founder Cliff Chadderton answers that
question in the address mailing that will go out to NS residents starting this
Chadderton says war amputees succeeded in overcoming many obstacles to
regain their pre-war lives. With this expertise, they established CHAMP which,
using a Winner's Circle philosophy, provides child amputees with financial
assistance for artificial limbs, counselling, regional Seminars and programs
like Matching Mothers.
He gives an example of how The War Amps has continued to innovate where
needed in order to provide a solid future for all child amputees through
"Devising a solution for single-limb amputees was not enough for the
multiple amputee youngster," he said. "We saw, however, that computer
technology could open up a new world of employment and so created WEBMASTERS,
in which these Super Champs learn to develop and maintain Web sites for
businesses that would not have the expertise to do so themselves."
"WEBMASTERS offers even the most severely disabled of the Champs a future
that includes education, employment, independence and family life," Chadderton
said, adding that the inaugural WEBMASTERS seminar, held this past summer, was
a resounding success.
