ACRI Plays Host - Research Symposium to Feature Presentations by Scientists at the Forefront of New Technologies

MONCTON, Aug. 14 /CNW/ - An international symposium being held in Moncton
August 19th and 20th will attract participants from throughout Canada, several
U.S. states and Europe. Entitled the Atlantic Omics Symposium and Expo, the
conference organized by the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute in
collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) will help
participants exchange on the current state of emerging technologies in the
broad area of "omics".
A recently coined suffix attached to such fields as genomics and
proteomics "omics," is a broad discipline for analyzing various large-scale
and data-rich biological systems. "Rapid technology development has really
spurred this field" says Dr. Rodney Ouellette, CEO and Director of Discovery
at the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute. "You can now look at an entire
cell's 20,000 genes at a time or several thousand proteins at a time where
before you could only analyze a few simultaneously."
This fourth annual symposium includes a host of international speakers,
who will bring together their experience and understanding of omic
technologies used to analyze human disease, especially cancer. Dr. Ouellette
says he looks forward to stimulating discussions that will increase access to
global scientific knowledge. "We understand the importance of being on the
cutting edge of new technologies and how omics research is giving the
scientific community a profound opportunity to further the fight against
