According to the latest rankings in the U.S. magazine Site Selection - Greater Montréal and Montréal International recognized among Canada's economic development champions

    MONTREAL, Sept. 28 /CNW Telbec/ - Greater Montréal is Canada's second
leading urban area in terms of economic development, according to the latest
"Best to Invest Canada 2007 Rankings" published in the American magazine Site
Selection. Metropolitan Montréal, second only to the Toronto region, beat out
such cities as Edmonton, Hamilton, Calgary and Vancouver, which ranked 3rd,
5th, 8th and 11th, respectively, in this survey based on the number of new
corporate projects and expansions between June 2006 and May 2007.
This ranking also spotlights Montréal International. The organization,
which specializes in attracting foreign investment, among other things, was
recognized by the magazine as one of the "Top Canadian Economic Development
Groups." This distinction was granted based on total project investment and
new jobs, and investment and jobs per capita.
"Greater Montréal's excellent position in this ranking is yet further
proof of the economic vitality of the metropolitan area and its ability to
attract investment thanks to its skilled workforce, its huge innovation and
creativity potential, its quality of life and the strength of its high-tech
clusters," said Mr. Pierre Brunet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of
Montréal International.
"Another asset of Greater Montréal is the strength of the partnership
between its dynamic forces, which include private businesses, governments, the
institutional sector and universities. Indeed, it is this very partnership
that gives strength to an organization such as Montréal International, and
that now merits us recognition from as prestigious a publication as Site
Selection," concluded Mr. Brunet.
Site Selection is published in the United States by Conway Data Inc. and
is distributed to 44,000 executives in North America and abroad. The
publication's content, aimed mainly at professionals specialized in locating
initial and expansion sites for businesses, is also available on the Internet
