A ten-year partnership makes for a healthy Quebec

TELUS donates $1.1 million to Opération Enfant Soleil

MONTREAL, Oct. 20 /CNW/ - TELUS is pleased to announce its continued
support for the development of high-quality pediatric care and social
intervention projects for the benefit of all Quebec children. With this latest
announcement, TELUS - an Opération Enfant Soleil partner for 10 years - has
committed to donating more than $375,000, as well as $150,000 in telephony
services, between now and the end of 2010. This brings the total donated to
Opération Enfant Soleil by TELUS since 1998 to $1.1 million.
"By contributing to Opération Enfant Soleil, we are helping reduce our
children's suffering and even finding them cures. By investing in our
children's health, we are also creating a brighter future for Quebec," said
Anne-Marie LaBerge, TELUS Vice President, Marketing Communications and member
of the Opération Enfant Soleil board of directors. "At TELUS, we strongly
believe that if we work together, more children will have access to the latest
technologies and treatments available, and to a greater quality of life."
The company's commitment to support Opération Enfant Soleil's mission can
also be felt through the volunteer work and the compassion of its 5,000 team
members in Quebec. During the 21st Opération Enfant Soleil Telethon, TELUS
supplied the necessary phone lines, while 200 of its team members volunteered
their time and expertise to run three call centres for processing pledges and
donations. In addition, during the Holiday season, TELUS retail associates
sell plush Company spokescritters, with proceeds going to Opération Enfant
"Thanks to their financial contributions and the direct involvement of
partners like TELUS, premature babies receive high-quality care in their own
regions, and children suffering from serious illnesses, such as cancer,
benefit from the best technologies and treatments available, in major
pediatric centres funded by our organization," said Ginette Charest, Executive
Director of Opération Enfant Soleil.
Over the past 20 years, Opération Enfant Soleil has injected more than
$115 million into the health and social service network serving all regions of
Quebec. The organization's efforts have given thousands of children access to
more compassionate care, as well as to cutting-edge medical equipment and to
an environment that is more conducive to healing.
