WINNIPEG, Feb. 22 /CNW/ - A SUPER SET FOR LIFE SCRATCH 'N WIN lottery
ticket provided Pat Vandal of Winnipeg with her biggest birthday surprise ever
- $1 million!
For the first time in her life, Pat Vandal was not looking forward to her
birthday. She'd decided that the numbers were just getting too big. On the
morning of her 60th birthday last week, her husband Paul brought an assortment
of birthday gifts to the table along with the morning coffee. Among the gifts
was a $10 SUPER SET FOR LIFE lottery ticket.
"I decided I should scratch the ticket before we went out for breakfast -
because I sometimes put them in my purse and forget about them," the retired
school principal said.
She could hardly believe her eyes as the prize money revealed on the
ticket kept adding up. Uncovering the highest prizes in each of the six "SET
FOR DREAMIN" play areas, Pat soon discovered she had won $1 million.
Paul, who retired from the railway a few years ago, calmly said they
should shower and get dressed, then get the ticket checked at the Co-op on
650 Archibald, where he'd bought the ticket.
"I said, 'Shower? Forget it! Pull on some jeans and let's get down to
that store!'" laughed Pat.
Once the million-dollar win was confirmed, the couple gathered their
three adult children and four grandchildren to tell them the news.
"They were so excited," smiled Paul. "The rest of the people in the
restaurant were wondering what was going on - we were all hugging each other."
Pat and Paul have sought professional advice on how to handle their
windfall. After 44 happy years together, they don't want too much to change -
they know the most important thing is their family.
