A Global News Update - Multiple Canadian RTNDA Wins For Global News Ontario and Global News Quebec


    TORONTO, April 28 /CNW/ - Global News Ontario and Global News Quebec were
both winners at the 2006 Central Regional Radio-Television News Directors
Association of Canada Awards (RTNDA), with a total of five awards and
honourable mentions combined. The awards were handed out earlier tonight at a
gala presentation in Toronto.
    Below is a listing of the Central Regional RTNDA honours received by
Global News Ontario and Global News Quebec:

    Global News Ontario:

    -   Sam Ross Award for Best Editorial/Commentary for "Bill Carroll - A
        Reasonable Response," Bill Carroll's commentary in response to the
        arrests of 17 members of an alleged home-grown Islamic terror cell
        for plotting a series of major attacks on targets in Southern
    -   Best Videography Award for "Silver Elvis Busker," a unique story
        about the life of a Toronto street performer known as Silver Elvis.
    -   Dave Rogers Award (honourable mention - large market) for Long
        Feature for "Women's Week," a five-part news series on women's
        issues, health and lifestyle.

    These awards are in addition to the RTNDA (U.S.) Edward R. Murrow Award
Global News Ontario received earlier this year for Best Continuing Coverage
for "Terror Threat," a series of stories highlighting the fact that the threat
of terrorism is real in Canada.

    Global News Quebec:

    -   Charlie Edwards Award for Best Spot News for "Dawson Shooting," in-
        depth coverage of Montreal's Dawson College shooting, its impact on
        the city, victims' friends and family.
    -   Bert Cannings Award for Best Newscast (honourable mention) for its
        August 2, 2006 news broadcast with last summer's major electrical
        thunder storm as the leading story.

    All of the regional winners will now go on to compete at the Canadian
national RTNDA awards, which will be held in Vancouver on June 23, 2007.
