MONTREAL, Sept. 11 /CNW Telbec/ - Montreal will be the meeting place for
many governance and financial experts during the first international
conference on Governance and Financial Markets in North America to be hosted
by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD). This event will be held at the
Centre Mont-Royal, located in the heart of Montreal.
This conference will be held under the honorary presidency of Denis
Desautels, FCA, Chairman of the board of Laurentian Bank and former Auditor
General of Canada. The Conference will feature several international
governance experts, such as Michael C. Jensen (Harvard Business School),
Roberta Romano (Yale Law School) and Ethiopis Tafara (Securities and Exchange
Commission). Many leaders from the Canadian business community, such as Donald
Coxe (BMO Financial), Purdy Crawford (Osler Hoskin & Harcourt), Clément Gignac
(National Bank of Canada), Jean-René Halde (Business Development Bank of
Canada), Monique Leroux (Desjardins Group), Jean St-Gelais (Autorité des
marchés financiers) and David Wilson (Ontario Securities Commission) will also
be speaking at this conference.
The ICD's Quebec Chapter Annual Dinner, which will also be held during
this conference, will feature Mrs. Sherron Watkins, former Vice President of
Enron Corporation who alerted then-CEO Ken Lay in August 2001 to accounting
irregularities within the company.
Various informative sessions and workshops will be offered. Hundreds of
directors and corporate leaders, analysts, financial experts, accountants,
legal advisors and government representatives are expected.
