A call to all: Griffintown selon vous

MONTREAL, Nov. 29, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - As part of its consultation on the development of the greater Griffintown area, the Office is launching a first online consultation operation, inviting Internet users to take part in the reflection on the identity of this soon-to-be-booming area, and on the various possible visions for its development. As of today, they will be able to share their opinions by commenting on the photos and videos on the site griffintownselonvous.com.

An invitation to participate will go out to citizens over the next few days. "We are very happy today to launch the initiative Griffintown selon vous - Regards sur l'avenir [Your view on Griffintown initiative - Future outlooks]. This is a first in terms of the Office's Web and social network use, through which we hope to involve a greater number of citizens in a constructive, dynamic dialogue on this history-filled area of Montréal," says OCPM President Louise Roy.

Griffintown is located in the Sud-Ouest borough, at the entrance to the central business district. In the 19th Century, the area was the cradle of industrialization in Canada. Its progressive decline was precipitated in 1970, with the closure of the Lachine Canal. Today, the area is slated for a major revitalization; located mid-way between downtown and the Lachine Canal, it is a choice target for real-estate developers. In keeping with the mandate assigned by the Montréal Executive Committee, the goal of the OCPM operation is to establish coherent guiding principles for the revitalization, based on the concerns of citizens and groups interested in the development of this large area. Many other consultation activities will be initiated over the coming weeks. For more information, please visit the Office Web site, at www.ocpm.qc.ca/griffintown.
