A Barn That Rocks

SASKATOON, Aug. 6 /CNW/ - CHAD KROEGER'S BARN ROCKS. The impressive,
6,000-square-foot cedar structure was built for the lead singer of the
acclaimed Canadian band Nickelback, and his fiancée, Marianne Goriuk, on their
acreage near Abbotsford, British Columbia. The Kroeger barn is featured in the
Fall 2007 issue of Acreage Life magazine, available soon.
The multi-purpose building has plenty of space for the couple's horses, a
hayloft, their collection of antiques, and even the odd Nickelback jam
session. It includes comfy furnishings, guest accommodations and laundry
The designer, Ernest Neudorf of Envision Design Works, Inc., worked
closely with Kroeger and Goriuk to ensure the facility met their diverse
needs. For the singer, having the barn means "You don't have to be in the
house to entertain." He often zips from the house to the barn via all-terrain
The earlier barn on the 20-acre property was converted to a recording
studio. Now there is a new home for the couple's three horses (including two
miniatures.) It also gives Goriuk a place to retreat from Nickelback business,
and pursue her quilting hobby with friends.
The barn's exterior is board and batten cedar, and the inside
incorporates wood reclaimed from an old barn in Ontario. Doors and windows in
the loft come from Goriuk's first home, a vintage farmhouse near Camrose,
The quiet country life provides a contrast to the busy and challenging
Nickelback scene. The band was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame last June,
and has won nine Juno awards. Nickelback has also sold more than eight million
albums worldwide.
