                         (56 Blue Jays Way, Toronto)

TORONTO, June 7 /CNW/ - A huge hit with Canadian audiences and critics
alike, EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL announced an extension to August 4, 2007 today.
Since its successful opening at Toronto's only cabaret theatre, the Diesel
Playhouse, EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL has continued its cult appeal and wowed its
loyal 'deadites' while simultaneously exciting an entirely new audience and
filling the theatre 8 shows a week in what has become one of the hottest Shows
of the summer. Nightly, fans fill the 'splatter zone' (sold out through
June 23rd) - the two front rows dedicated to audience members being sprayed
with demon blood - and can be seen wearing their splattered shirts afterwards
as a trophy on the streets of Toronto and as a testament to their bravery and
The Show has enjoyed weekend sell-out crowds and rave reviews. Toronto
Star has deemed it "One hell of a night out at the theatre...hilariously
bloody, bloody hilarious", The Globe and Mail says that "the silly EVIL DEAD:
THE MUSICAL is bloody fantastic", The Toronto Sun concludes that it has "that
delicious alchemy by which horror is transmuted into hysterical laughter" and
NOW Magazine gushes that "it is the best damn dead theatre event of the year".
Added to these accolades, the original cast recording of EVIL DEAD: THE
MUSICAL entered the Billboard Top Cast Albums chart at No. 4.
Regularly stopped on the streets by EVIL DEAD : THE MUSICAL followers,
the cast features film and Broadway stars Ryan Ward, reprising his critically
acclaimed Off-Broadway performance as Ash, Sarah Cornell (Ulla in The
Producers, Toronto and Broadway, Sex and the Second City, Chicago) as both
Annie and Shelley, Tara Macri (Hairspray, Broadway and US Tour) as Linda,
Michael 'Nug' Nahrgang ('Men With Brooms', 'The Tuxedo') as Jake, Matt
Olmstead as Scott, Christian Bellsmith (Buddy Holly in Buddy at Stage West) as
Ed and Rachel Fischer as Cheryl.
Directed by Christopher Bond and three-time Tony(R) Award-winner Hinton
Battle (Miss Saigon, The Tap Dance Kid, Sophisticated Ladies), EVIL DEAD: THE
MUSICAL includes book and lyrics by George Reinblatt, music by Frank Cipolla,
Christopher Bond, Melissa Morris and George Reinblatt with music supervision
by Frank Cipolla, choreography by Hinton Battle and set design by Tony(R)
Award winner David Gallo (Drowsy Chaperone).
While the title may convey horror - fans, critics and audiences alike are
calling it an uproariously funny musical comedy. Based on Sam Raimi's 80s
cult-classic horror films, EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL unearths the old familiar
story: boy and friends take a weekend getaway at abandoned cabin, boy expects
to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian
Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive. As musical mayhem descends upon this
sleepover in the woods, "camp" takes on a whole new meaning with uproarious
numbers like "All the Men in my Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons,"
"Look Who's Evil Now" and "Do the Necronomicon".
Jeffrey Latimer, Producer of EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL, said today, "To have
a critically acclaimed success Off-Broadway and then to be met with a similar
response in our home town is extraordinary - we are also so thrilled to see
teenagers and their parents enjoying a night out at the theatre together."
