Operation Legacy - To commemorate and to preserve Canada's military heritage

BRITISH COLUMBIA, Nov. 2 /CNW Telbec/ -

    Dear Editor,

I would like to make your readers aware of the 65th anniversary of the Italian Campaign.

While many have heard of the historic storming of the beaches in Normandy by Canadian troops, an important part of the story, the groundwork and lives lost in preparation for the invasion of France, seems to have been forgotten.

Nearly six thousand Canadian soldiers, some fresh out of high school, fell in battle aiding the British in the 2 year invasion of Sicily and Italy. Their stories are documented through letters home and reminiscences of the various battles by survivors in The War Amps documentary "A War of Their Own".

This week I, as an amputee and member of The War Amps Operation Legacy, and other young Canadians like myself, are donating this documentary to schools and libraries across the country.

The War Amps "Never Again" documentary series aims to reveal the realities of war while honouring those who fought.

I believe Canada has a strong military heritage that deserves to be truthfully preserved for future generations and encourage others to learn about our country's successes and sacrifices.

    Sincerely,
    Jennah Stavroff, 25
    Operation Legacy Member, Victoria BC
