2009 Audi A4 Avant Debuts In Vancouver

TORONTO, March 28 /CNW/ - At a press conference prior to the opening of
the Vancouver International Auto Show today, Audi Canada staged the Canadian
premiere showing of the all-new 2009 Audi A4 Avant with a dramatic unveiling.
Driving pleasure, superior technology, stimulating styling and an
equipment specification which would even live up to expectations in the luxury
class: these are the qualities that make the Audi A4 series the heart of the
brand and a perennial bestseller.
The all-new 2009 A4 Avant reflects all of these traditional Audi A4
characteristics while radiating an air of sportiness, elegance and excitement.
Powerful handling characteristics, a high standard of safety and a most
versatile interior make it the ideal choice for discerning drivers with
individual requirements.
One of the most successful Audi models of all time, the 2009 A4 Avant
will begin its fifth generation in Canada with the introduction of the all-new
2009 model this fall. High-grade equipment, economical and powerful engines,
plus quattro permanent all-wheel drive will once again set the standard for
competitors to follow.
A bestseller is set to become even more attractive: Audi is launching the
A4 Avant as a companion to the all-new 2009 A4 sedan later this year all new
styling, advanced technological features and functional highlights will give
the new A4 Avant an exclusive position within Canada's premium mid-size

    Concept and design

The styling of the all-new Audi A4 Avant is timeless and modern, the
signature Audi single-frame grille and the inwardly tapered clear-glass
headlights create a self-assured look. At the rear, the two-piece light units
arch across the tailgate emphasizing the body's horizontal styling. The A4
sedan and the Avant both sit squarely on the road; the ratio of the muscular
body area to the window area gives both models a lithe, athletic appearance.
In the interior, steering wheel with airbag covers in the Audi
single-frame design lend an elegant touch. Door sill trims with aluminum
inlays and numerous aluminum applications are provided as standard. The
quality of materials and craftsmanship in the interior meets the standards
expected of vehicles in the luxury class.
The excellent ergonomic design for which Audi is renowned is also to be
found in the all-new A4 Avant. The cockpit surrounds the driver with generous
sweeping lines, which flow from the dashboard into the door area. With a
capacity of up to 1,354 litres of available cargo capacity with the rear seat
folded down, the new A4 Avant is capable of handling substantial transport
tasks. The Avant is a full 4.59 metres long - an impressive statistic for the
midsize class.

    Drivetrain and chassis

In the 2009 Audi A4 Avant, a powerful yet economical engine ensures
sporty performance. The successor to the current four-cylinder, the new 2.0
TFSI engine, offers improved horsepower, torque and fuel economy will be the
only powerplant for the all new 2009 Audi A4 Avant. This engine employs direct
fuel injection FSI technology and is also turbocharged. With its smooth
running and impressive flow of power, the engine in the new A4 Avant is a
source of pure driving pleasure. It also uses distinctly less fuel than the
corresponding unit in the previous model:

The all-new A4 Avant will feature Audi's quattro permanent all-wheel
drive, and its power is distributed by a self-locking centre differential. The
transmission also illustrates the high technical standards of the A4 model
range. For the A4 the standard Tiptronic gearbox offers six speeds and
ultra-smooth shifting.

    The chassis

The dynamic suspension of the new A4 Avant is a reflection of elaborate
design and attention to detail. To reduce unsprung weight, most of the
components are made from light alloys. The front suspension features a
four-link design, while a highly complex self-tracking trapezoidal-link
suspension is employed at the rear. This layout delivers excellent dynamics
and agile handling - together with the customary first-class ride comfort.
Drivers of the A4 Avant benefit from these qualities in equal measure. This
also applies to the generously dimensioned brake system featuring four
powerful discs. The ESP stabilization system can be partly or completely

The 2009 A4 Avant offers a level of standard equipment that will set the
standards in the premium midsize class. The automatic air conditioning with
separate temperature controls is standard on the A4 Avant. Safety-related
features include sideguard large-area head airbags and the Audi backguard
system, which alleviates the consequences of a rear-end collision.
The new Audi A4 can be ordered with various audio systems, xenon plus
headlights and "adaptive light" dynamic cornering lights, incorporating
daytime running lights with low energy consumption. In the field of
infotainment, the DVD-based navigation system with an integral rear view
parking camera will set new standards for the segment. Its operating logic is
based on the intuitive MMI system used for the large Audi model lines. An iPod
interface and highly convenient Bluetooth telephone connectivity are also
integral features of the new A4 Avant.
The success story of the A4 Avant, which is now entering its fifth
generation, is sustained by many outstanding qualities. The powerful and
efficient engines set standards for the competition, as does quattro permanent
all-wheel drive and a range of high-quality equipment. Audi will be offering
its customers the opportunity to make their new A4 even more individual,
exclusive and functional with the sporty and luxurious A4 Avant. The new Avant
complements the A4 sedan, which will be launched in the fall of 2008.
