2008 BIG Festival offers 2.5km of car-free fun on Bloor Street

    Inaugural event promises to be a grassroots success story

    TORONTO, June 18 /CNW/ - The Bloor Improvement Group (BIG) invites
Toronto to come out on Saturday, June 21, between 1pm and 9pm, for the 1st
annual BIG Festival (bigonbloor.com/festival). Experience a transformation of
Bloor Street West from Christie Pits Park to Lansdowne Avenue as the community
celebrates the summer solstice with 2.5 km of car-free fun.


    -   Culture Works - A precedent setting street fair for cultural
        institutions and organizations featuring the Art Gallery of Ontario,
        Centre for Contemporary Canadian Art, C Magazine, Emerging Art
        Professionals, Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Mercer Union: A Centre
        for Contemporary Art, National Film Board of Canada, Open Studio,
        Royal Ontario Museum, The Music Gallery, Toronto Coalition for Active
        Transportation, Fringe of Toronto Theatre Festival, Toronto School of
        Art and many, many others
    -   2 stages featuring live music, dance, fashion and comedy shows
    -   3 special-event hubs hosting performances and demonstrations by
        dozens of local cultural providers
