2007 BDO WATCase competition draws to a close

WATERLOO, ON, Sept. 18 /CNW/ - The School of Accountancy at the
University of Waterloo is pleased to announce the winning team in the 2007
BDO Dunwoody WATCase Competition. Congratulations to Pamela Ching,
Katelyn Culliton, Stephanie Maria D'Costa, Iris Leung and Sylvia Luong for
placing first in the competition.
Over 200 students participated in the competition, a requirement for
upper year students in the School of Accountancy. This year's case was
provided by Armtec. The competition was an intense week for the participants,
starting with the case being distributed on September 7, and written reports
due just days later, on September 11. The next two days saw each group present
their findings to a panel of judges comprised of BDO Dunwoody, UW and Armtec
representatives. The winners were announced at a reception on Friday,
September 14.
"Once again the WATCase competition was a great showcase for our program
and our students, who showed great development in their preparation for the
real business world," said Jim Barnett, Director of the School of Accountancy.
"All the papers and presentations were well prepared, and the winners showed a
keen analysis of the key business issues. We are proud of the results shown
here and the learning experience the BDO Dunwoody WATCase Competition provided
to our students."
As the title sponsor of the event, BDO Dunwoody LLP was impressed with
the skills shown by the finalists. Alexandra Hardy, WATCase competition panel
judge and one of BDO's University of Waterloo alumni said, "It was an absolute
pleasure to read over the innovative solutions that these students came up
with to this challenging accounting case. It's a testament to their
considerable talents and those of their teachers. We congratulate them and
look forward to seeing these students develop into the next generation of
accounting professionals."
