$ 80,000 collected to benefit sick and disadvantaged children at the concert offered by the OSM and Kent Nagano at the invitation of the Montreal Alouettes

MONTREAL, Aug. 11 /CNW Telbec/ - The OSM concert organized by the
Montreal Alouettes and under the direction of Kent Nagano, with the
participation of renowned singers Robert Charlebois, Marie-Josée Lord and Marc
Hervieux as well as violinist Jonathan Crow, proved to be a great success,
attracting more than 7 000 listeners. The event raised $80,000 on behalf of
two organizations involved in helping children.
At the start of the concert, Mr. Larry Smith, President and CEO of the
Montreal Alouettes, Ms. Madeleine Careau, General Manager of the OSM, and Mr.
Richard Côté, BMO Bank of Montreal vice-president for major business clients,
turned over to Ms. Michèle Boyer, chair of the Garde-Manger Pour Tous
fundraising committee, and to Mrs. Aniele Lecoq, President and Executive
Director of the Sainte-Justine Hospital Foundation. The mission of the
Garde-Manger Pour Tous is to relieve hunger and to develop healthful eating
habits in children living in the disadvantaged neighbourhoods of the
south-western part of Montreal Island, while the Sainte-Justine Hospital
Foundation contributes in a very significant way to the development of the CHU
The concert, conducted by Kent Nagano, the Orchestra's music director,
was sponsored by BMO Bank of Montreal in a Percival Molson Stadium
reconfigured especially as an amphitheatre for this particular event. The OSM,
pleased to be associated with a cause that works to help young people and
faithful to its mission of educating and bridging the gap with its community,
performed a varied musical repertoire showcasing the excellence of its
musicians - to the audience's delight.
