Wind storm knocks out power to more than 150,000 Hydro One customers

TORONTO, April 28 /CNW/ - High winds of up to 100 km/hr, moving from southwestern to eastern Ontario, have downed trees and power lines and caused power outages for approximately 150,000 Hydro One customers. Some of the major areas affected are listed below:

Hydro One crews continue to assess damage and it is expected that the number of customers affected by this storm may increase as the storm progresses east.  Power will be restored as soon as possible and Hydro One will provide updates on restoration times once the extent of the storm damage has been determined.

"Hydro One has deployed all available lines and forestry crews in the affected areas and is moving swiftly to bring in additional crews to assist with restoration of power in the hardest hit communities," said Myles D'Arcey, Senior Vice President, Customer Operations. "We appreciate the support and patience of our customers as we work to restore power."

Hydro One strongly urges people to take extra precaution near fallen power lines. Even if a fallen wire seems dead, it can be dangerous. People are urged to report to Hydro One the location of the fallen wires as soon as possible. Touching a vehicle that is in contact with a power line can be fatal.
