VCC fashion arts grads present cutting edge designs at Fiat Mode XXIV

VANCOUVER, Sept. 26, 2011 /CNW/ - Twenty-eight Vancouver Community College fashion arts graduates are preparing to highlight their design collections in an evening gala on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at the Italian Cultural Centre. This year's fashion show brings together creatively eclectic and elegant designs.

Year over year, fashion arts graduates impress with refined collections that showcase each designer's raw talent. From lingerie to active, sport and evening wear, this year's designs are among the most varied seen to date.

Graduates Raul Rivera, Iris Taborsky-Tasa and Anika Yuzak each drew from their own inspirations to create one-of-a-kind designs.

"The inspiration for my collection was contrast," says Rivera. "It's a mix of futuristic and modern contemporary elegance with the use of asymmetrical symmetry, dart manipulation and tailoring."

With her Haiiku clothing line already in various boutiques, Taborsky-Tasa was looking to push her boundaries with this collection. "My pieces were a study in textural soft structure," says Taborsky-Tasa. "I was also inspired by the interplay of light and shadow, similar to the photographic styling of Alfred Stieglitz and Tim Flach."

"I was inspired by the styles and colours of the flower children of the 1970s," says Yuzak. "I was also interested in exploring print design and sustainable fabrics through the use of patchwork detailing and colourful sun bleached organic fabrics."

Fiat Mode XXIV collections are all about celebrating the wonderful work of this year's fashion arts graduates with an extraordinary evening of creative energy and dazzling men's and women's collections.

"The buzz is in the air and it's fashion time at VCC once more," says Sal Ferreras, vice president, education and student services. "I am very excited about the look, quality and range of this year's fashion collection."

Event details: Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m., Italian Cultural Centre, 3075 Slocan Street, Vancouver.
Tickets are available at or at the door on the night of the event.
