EDMONTON, Feb. 24 /CNW/ - The CAW has rescinded the 72-hour strike
notice with Cascade Carriers L.P. in favour of continuing talks.
CAW Local 4050 represents a bargaining unit of 52 drivers at Cascade
Carriers, Owner Operators who provide their own tractor units to haul
customers' product throughout Alberta, British Columbia and
The union had set a strike deadline of 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25,
2011 but has now cancelled that notice in favour of continued talks
with the company.
"Our goal is to secure a new collective agreement that the members can
work with for their future needs and we realize that any disruption in
service could permanently jeopardize the customer base and that is not
in either side's interest," said CAW National Representative Todd
Romanow. "We have not made this decision easily, but it has come with
due consideration and discussion with our members."
The union will set new bargaining dates immediately.
