Unimat enhances their offer in the hardware and construction materials sector - Unimat inaugurates the largest department store in its network

THETFORD MINES, QC, Nov. 30, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Unimat home renovation is proud to inaugurate its first store with a retail area of over 32,000 square foot sales floor 32,000 square feet of sales, the result of an over $7,000,000 investment.

Innovate and come closer

For the first time in its history, Unimat is bringing together nine product categories (including plumbing, electrical, hardware, building materials, painting and decorating, not to mention the agricultural items, maple syrup and garden products that built his reputation) under one roof.

With a 32,000 square foot sales floor, the new depot offers an impressive selection of products and has a large decoration centre. This renovation centre has been designed with the customer in mind: all that they offer is clear from the first glance, the aisles are wide, the products are clearly identified and easily accessible. On the floor, about thirty employees are available to answer questions. Unimat has used 100% LED lights to be more eco-energetic.

In your neighbourhood

After extremely high profit growth of 70% during the last seven years, throughout Quebec, Unimat is implementing a new format to better meet the actual needs of the population in Thetford Mines.

The aging of the population and real estate in the region are opportunities that led Unimat owners to rethink the concept of their stores.

"Consumers want everything under one roof, and above all, to be guided towards what will best fill their needs. Historically, we at Unimat have relied on being close by: geographic proximity for certain, but more importantly human proximity. However, in this new "Unimat giant home improvement centre",  the customer will enjoy the feel of a neighborhood hardware store, even in a large warehouse due to our superior, personalized service and warm welcome" said René Labrecque, Executive Director of Unimat.

Contributing to area growth

In this adventure, the Coop des Appalaches partnered with a solid business partner: The Coop fédérée, who act as co-owner and main supplier. "As a member of three Pan-Canadian purchasing groups: Spancan, ILDC and IPCO, La Coop fédérée has considerable purchasing power. The result: consumers know that by buying at Unimat they will get competitive prices and contribute to the economic development of their region ", said Mr. Denis Richard, President of the Coop fédérée.

"Unimat is a cooperative created and founded by people of the region for people of the region. All profits are reinvested into the community, as either local investment or through rebates. Our goal is to contribute to the success of our region and improve the quality of life for the residents, "said Mr. Renaud Bergeron, president of the Coop des Appalaches.

The Coop des Appalaches and the La Coop fédérée have invested seven million dollars into this project that has also created 22 new jobs.
