MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 12, 2011 /CNW/ - Subaru is still well-positioned
to fight for the Manufacturer's Championship following Rallye Defi held
in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Sainte-Lucie-des-Laurentides, Saint-Donat,
Montcalm, Saint-Sixte, Ripon and Montpellier, Quebec, on September
9-10. Two Subaru teams reached the podium and seven Subaru entrants
finished in the top ten. Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Pat Richard
and co-driver Leanne Junnila battled for first place and were leading
the event overall in terms of stage times; however, the duo found
themselves penalized with exclusion in an unfortunate turn of events at
the end of the first day.
Finishing in second place were Leo Urlichich and Martin Brady in a 2007
Subaru Impreza WRX STI, while Craig Henderson and Lyne Murphy claimed
third in their 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
"It's unfortunate for us in our championship hopes," said Richard. "But
Subaru is still well-positioned to fight for the Manufacturer's
Championship in 2011. We know our recent performance enhancements to
the car will make it very competitive at the next events of the
championship, which we're looking forward to, and we'll hopefully come
away from those events with a win."
The penultimate event in the Canadian Rally Championship is the Pacific
Forest Rally, which will run September 30 to October 1, near Merritt,
