MONTREAL, Nov. 28, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - With two cranes now in operation,
the Pointe-Nord neighbourhood on Nuns' Island is one of the biggest
residential construction sites in the Montreal region. Led by Proment
Corporation, this major project consists of 760 living units at
different stages of development.
The construction of the first Pointe-Nord building, ZUNI, which offereds
161 condos and 12 townhouses, has been completed and its residents
recently moved in. The first crane on the site is being used to
construct Evolo, a 30-storey building whose eighth floor has already
been erected. Evolo will offer 260 condos, of which 85% have already
been sold, as well as 16 townhouses, 14 of them already sold. The
second crane is dedicated to the construction of the Evolo Pavilion, a
five-storey building with 43condos. The completion date for Evolo and
the Evolo Pavilion is scheduled for fall 2012. Next June, a third crane
will be installed on the site to begin construction on Evolo 2, whose
units are now on sale.
"With the two Evolo towers, we are aiming for LEED environmental
certification. In fact, the towers are being constructed in the heart
of a LEED ND ecological neighbourhood", said Louis-Joseph Papineau,
Vice-President of Development and Construction at Proment Corporation.
Birth of a residential neighbourhood
Pointe-Nord will offer a whole new dimension to Nuns' Island. "We are
currently witnessing the birth of a whole neighbourhood and a unique
way of life, just a few minutes from Downtown Montreal", explained
Samuel Gewurz, President of Proment Corporation.
This neighbourhood will be an outstanding place to live, thanks to its
strategic position near major highways and public transport; the beauty
of its riverside site, parks and paths; and its local shops, which will
be a focal point for residents and visitors, with a bakery and
restaurant just a short walk away.
Evolo and the Evolo Pavilion will border a pedestrian plaza overlooking
a riverside park. "When designing Pointe-Nord, we set ourselves the
objective of giving Montrealers access to the river banks", adds Mr.
Papineau. The water will be visible from every street and will be the
principal attraction from the main square. A pedestrian walkway will
lead to a quay, where people will be able to launch kayaks, admire the
view, or just sit back and relax.
The City of Montreal has already begun work on the parks and public
spaces by the riverside. "The facilities should be finished in 2012,
allowing the neighbourhood's community to fully benefit from life on
Pointe-Nord," says Mr. Papineau.
One aspect of urban planning generating particular interest is the range
of stores to be established in the neighbourhood. "We intend to open a
bakery café in the ZUNI building, and a restaurant with a magnificent
open-air terrace on the first floor on the Evolo Pavilion", explains
Ilan Gewurz, Executive Vice-President of Proment Corporation. The
restaurant will be a key feature of the pedestrian plaza in the summer
months. It should be noted that Proment is focusing particular
attention on the different stores that will be part of Pointe-Nord. "We
believe the commercial offering should complement the lifestyle of the
Pointe-Nord neighbourhood, which is why we are paying special attention
to the choice of stores", he concludes.
Evolo 2 is now on the market
Proment Corporation will officially open the sale of condominiums in the
Evolo 2 residential tower shortly. Situated at the heart of the
Pointe-Nord ecological neighbourhood, this 30-storey building will
offer future residents spectacular views onto the Saint-Lawrence River
and a unique panorama of the city. The building comprises 260 condos,
with surface areas ranging between 685 and 2,000 square feet. The
advance sales phase started recently and 30 units have been sold. If
the rate of sales is strong, excavation work will begin next spring.
The building should welcome its first residents in 2014.
