TORONTO, April 20 /CNW/ - TVO is pleased to announce that Piya Chattopadhyay is joining The Agenda with Steve Paikin, TVO's flagship current affairs program. Piya will fill-in for Steve Paikin throughout the season, as well as anchor the summer format of The Agenda, allowing for even more of the in-depth analysis that has become its hallmark.

"On behalf of The Agenda Team, I'd like to extend a warm welcome to Piya," says Steve Paikin, anchor and senior editor. "Piya brings with her a nuanced understanding of the issues we're putting under the microscope on the program. I'm looking forward to watching her engage Ontarians with her own unique approach on the big topics of the day."

Now in its fifth season, The Agenda with Steve Paikin focuses on in-depth current affairs analysis, exploring multiple perspectives through one-on-one interviews and extended debate. It airs weeknights at 8 pm and 11 pm on TVO and is available as a podcast by 5 am the following day. The Agenda Online and The Agenda on the Road also play an important role in fostering citizen engagement in Ontario.

Beginning in September, Piya will also become the new host of Big Ideas, TVO's popular series of lectures on topics ranging from politics to culture, economics, art history and science. Big Ideas airs Saturday and Sunday at 5 pm. TVO's most popular podcast, it is regularly in the top ten podcast downloads in the iTunes Higher Education category in both Canada and the U.S.

Details on Piya's first appearance on TVO will be announced in the coming weeks.

"I've been a big fan of the type of programming that TVO offers for a very long time," says Chattopadhyay. "I'm proud to join an organization that engages Ontarians in dialogue on the important issues that impact every citizen of the province."

Piya Chattopadhyay has reported on a wide-range of issues from politics in the Middle East, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and the Asian tsunami to health, education, social issues and culture. A seasoned journalist with over ten years of experience, she has worked for various news outlets in Canada and abroad. Piya was a Middle East Correspondent for Fox News Radio and most recently was a fill-in host for CBC radio's The Current, The World at Six, The World This Hour and CBC TV's Breaking News Desk.

"The Agenda with Steve Paikin and Big Ideas are smart programs that tackle the important issues of the day," said Dan Dunsky, Executive Producer. "Piya brings to the table an excellent combination of journalistic talent and a strong understanding of the issues, both of which will allow for enhanced debate and discussion across the province."
