VANCOUVER, June 24, 2011 /CNW/ - T&T Supermarket Inc. is today informing
the public of unauthorized and illegal intrusions into its website
www.tnt-supermarket.com. The Company has now determined this occurred
on June 6, 7, 11, 2011, and on June 14 through to June 17, 2011.
T&T has determined that personal information of approximately 58,000
individuals in T&T's databases may have been accessed by unauthorized
intruders and some visitors may have been exposed to malware. T&T does not collect credit card information, driver's license, dates of birth or
social insurance numbers through its website.
Potentially compromised data includes: username, password, first name,
last name, age, gender, email address, street address, city, province,
postal code, cell number, phone number and fax information. In
addition, information submitted by job applicants may have also been
Visitors to the site on June 6, 7 or 11, 2011, applying online for
employment or placing product orders for in-store pick-up may have been
unknowingly re-directed to a non-T&T website that may have displayed a
message directing users to start a scan by clicking a button on the
screen. Clicking the button may have activated the download of
additional software onto computers in an attempt to gather personal
A similar re-direction of T&T suppliers may have occurred from June 14
to June 17, 2011.
T&T sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience or concern this situation
If individuals receive any communications from anyone purporting to be
from T&T they should under no circumstances provide any personal
information. T&T will not be contacting individuals, by any means,
including email, to provide further personal information, especially
sensitive personal information such as credit card numbers. If
individuals receive any communications asking for further personal
information, individuals should not provide it.
T&T will be notifying known affected individuals to inform them of the
incident. T&T has contacted all relevant privacy commissioners.
To address this situation the Company has temporarily shut down the T&T
website and has engaged security experts to conduct a full and complete
investigation into what happened. In order to prevent future
unauthorized access to personal information, T&T will be taking steps
to enhance security and strengthen network infrastructure by rebuilding
systems to provide greater protection of personal information.
If individuals believe that they may have been affected by this
unauthorized access, T&T recommends the following precautions:
When the T&T website is fully restored, users of the site log on and
re-register. Additionally, if T&T usernames or passwords are used for
other unrelated services or accounts, the Company strongly recommends a
change to them as well.
Run a reputable antivirus and spyware utility on impacted computers to
detect any potential spyware or malware.
Employ heightened awareness of email, telephone and postal mail scams
that ask for personal or sensitive information.
