The World Trade Center in Private Photography / An Open International Photo-Blog

BERLIN, Sept. 6, 2011 /CNW/ - is a photo blog created in 2009 and curated by Stefka Ammon and Robert Ziegler. It is a collection of pictures of people photographed in front of, in, on, behind or beside the World Trade Center. These photographs were taken between the start of construction in 1966 and September 10, 2001. Images of the destruction of the towers on 9/11 are explicitly not a part of this blog.

The authors of the photographs can also post their thoughts and memories along with their pictures. The result is a kaleidoscope of texts and images, providing a unique perspective on this distinctive, emotionally charged structure.

Anyone who has an appropriate photo is invited to upload it to or e-mail it to along with a brief commentary. Submit your image!

The World Trade Center's life span coincided with the peak of private analog photography. The millions of photos taken at the WTC have, for the most part, never been digitized. They're stuck in albums, buried in boxes, tucked away in cellars and storage rooms.

There are currently 245 pictures and commentaries on, from all over the world: the U.S., China, Germany, the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, India, Canada, France, Argentina, Turkey, Uruguay, Cuba, the Netherlands, England, Poland, Russia, Israel, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland and many more. . . .

Six photos with captions can be found and downloaded for editorial use at These photos must be attributed to the author (MY-WTC) and may be used until December 31, 2011.

An explanatory text by French curator and photography scholar Dr. Nicolas Liucci-Goutnikov can be read at This text may be quoted, provided the author (Dr. Nicolas Liucci-Goutnikov) is credited.
