MONTREAL, Sept. 1, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Tourisme Montréal has teamed up
with the Conseil des arts de Montréal to launch the new Prix Tourisme Montréal du rayonnement international. This award, along with a grant of $5,000, will be one of 10 honours
conferred on November 1, 2011, as part of the Prix de Montréal pour les arts et la culture, a major event organized by the Conseil des arts de Montréal.
The Prix Tourisme Montréal du rayonnement international (international influence award) is an annual recognition of a
participating cultural organization or artist who, through their
activities, contributes to the enhancement of Montréal's international
profile. Once a year, a jury will award the prize to an organization or
artist who has demonstrated exemplary effort and achievement, either at
home in Montréal or elsewhere, in their actions to encourage
international travellers to visit Montréal.
"It is with great pride that Tourisme Montréal announces the creation of
the Prix Tourisme Montréal du rayonnement international to recognize excellence by a Montréal cultural organization or artist in
influencing tourism. Montréal's cultural image is highly regarded
internationally, and we count on this asset to convince visitors to
choose Montréal as their travel destination. The time has now come to
honour those who, over the years, have gone above and beyond when it
comes to stimulating cultural tourism," states the Honourable
Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal.
Founded in 1919, Tourisme Montréal is a private, not-for-profit
organization that is responsible for providing leadership in the
concerted efforts of hospitality and promotion in order to position the
destination on leisure and business travel markets. It is also
responsible for developing Montréal's tourism product in accordance
with the ever-changing conditions of the market.
Furthermore, some 15 years ago, Tourisme Montréal launched a major
project to study the dynamic between tourism and culture in Montréal.
Since 2008, a triennial partnership between Tourisme Montréal, the City
of Montréal, and the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de
la Condition féminine (MCCCF), as established in the Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal (agreement on Montréal's cultural development), has led to increased effort to develop Montréal's cultural tourism
industry. In addition, the Plan d'action 2007-2017, Montréal, métropole culturelle (2007-2017 action plan - Montréal, cultural metropolis) also targets the
development of cultural tourism in order to promote Montréal as a
travel destination in Canada and abroad.
