TEDxVancouver 2011 Announces its Second Speaker: Sean Aiken

Pioneer of One Week Job Project will speak and inspire at the third annual event on November 12th

VANCOUVER, Sept. 29, 2011 /CNW/ - TEDxVancouver is pleased to announce the second of several exciting speakers in the 2011 lineup. Sean Aiken, a Capilano University College graduate, started the One Week Job Project upon completion of his degree in February 2007, and completed 52 weeks of his career at 52 different jobs by March 2008. From a dairy farmer to an NHL mascot, and an advertising executive to a firefighter, Sean will be bringing his wide variety of experiences, along with his tale of how he started a movement, to the audience at the Chan Centre on November 12, 2011.

TEDxVancouver will celebrate its third annual event by infusing the world-renowned TED platform with the local energy and spirit of an outstanding line-up of thought provoking talks. Presenters at TEDxVancouver are hand picked for their inspired thinking and world acclaimed accomplishments, and in the TED tradition, each is challenged to give "the talk of their life" in 18 minutes or less. It is with great excitement that we present the second speaker for TEDxVancouver 2011, another proud Vancouverite and pioneer of the One Week Job Project, Sean Aiken.

The concept for this year's event is "The Frontier" - a topic selected as a reflection of the new wonders undreamt of in our time. This year's TEDxVancouver event is designed to be a love letter to knowledge and innovation. Like TED's own mission, "The Frontier" represents boundless possibility and ideas worth sharing. The living boundary with the unknown.

About Sean Aiken
Sean Aiken graduated from college and didn't know what he wanted to do for a career (or what he wanted to do with his life). Instead of taking the first job that came along, he found a unique way of figuring it out: The One Week Job Project. The One Week Job Project enabled anyone, anywhere, to offer Sean a job for one week. Any money earned for the work, Sean asked the employer to donate towards the ONE / Make Poverty History campaign. On his inspirational quest across North America, Sean trekked more than 55,000 miles, slept on 55 couches, raised over $20K for charity, and tried every job he could: Bungee Instructor, Dairy Farmer, Advertising Executive, Baker, NHL Mascot, Stock Trader, Firefighter, etc… working 52 jobs in 52 weeks to find his passion. Sean's incredible journey has been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time, Globe & Mail, CNN, 20/20, The Rachael Ray Show, Good Morning America, CBC, MTV, and countless other media outlets around the world. His book, The One Week Job Project is published by Random House USA and Penguin Books Canada, while the feature length documentary premiered on CBC.
