Teachers awarded for excellence

TORONTO, Sept. 30, 2011 /CNW/ - Yesterday, three Ontario teachers received the OTIP Teaching Award for excellence at Enoch Turner School in Toronto.

The Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan (OTIP) sponsors these awards which are administered by the Ontario Teachers' Federation (OTF). This is the eighth year for the awards.

This year, the following teachers were recognized:

Brian Robertson, Land O' Lakes Public School, Mountain Grove - Elementary Teacher Category
Alison Mann, Parkdale Collegiate Institute, Toronto - Secondary Teacher Category

"We believe that good teaching provides young people with the intellectual resources to count on as they set out to face life's challenges," stated Julie Millard, Director of Marketing and Communications at OTIP who, along with Roxanne Chartrand, Director of Human Resources from OTIP, presented the award in the secondary category.

"These award winners are representative of all Ontario's teachers" stated Francine LeBlanc-Lebel, OTF President. "It is a wonderful way for us to celebrate World Teachers' Day—to recognize the excellence of teachers."

The Toronto Star also recognized teaching excellence with the presentation of the Toronto Star Teacher Award to Kevin Hrycay, Cosburn Middle School, Toronto.

TFO presented the Prix TFO Multimédia à l'école to France LaBonté, École élémentaire publique des Navigateurs, New Liskeard.
