Survey Says: Most Canadians Mistakenly Believe "Green" Paints are More Expensive

OLYMPIC(R) Paints and Stains Allows Consumers Not to Compromise Their Wallets
As They Tackle Home Décor Projects this Season

TORONTO, June 1, 2011 /CNW/ - A recent poll1 sponsored by Olympic Paints and Stains indicates that two-thirds of the respondents plan to use paint products on a home improvement project this year. While there is a growing trend to use green products in home improvement projects, consumers think it costs more to protect the environment. In fact, more than two thirds of Canadians (68 per cent) agree that environmentally friendly paint is more expensive than regular paint - but Olympic Paints and Stains is proving them wrong with its affordable, Zero VOC paint.

"Consumers don't have to compromise on quality to be kind to their wallets and the planet when tackling DIY home improvement projects," said Jennifer Dodson, Senior Marketing Manager, Olympic Paint. "Olympic Premium Interior paint is a great value because it starts at just $27 a gallon, and offers a Zero VOC, low odour paint, making it the perfect choice for a beautiful and healthy home."

The survey also revealed other opinions about paint from Canadians. Most respondents (71 per cent) rank durability as the most important quality for their paint. Olympics' proprietary formula offers outstanding durability and is backed by a lifetime satisfaction guarantee.

The poll also revealed that while most men (73 per cent) are painting at home, women still call the shots when it comes to choosing paint colour, with 67 per cent deciding for the household. Olympic Paints and Stains makes it easy for consumers to select the perfect shade with their designer-inspired colour pallet or by simply using the new ColorClix desktop application, which allows consumers to find colour inspiration by snapping a photo and matching it to one of Olympics' paint colours.

About the Survey
From April 26, to April 28, 2011, Vision Critical conducted an online survey among a randomly selected sample of 1,449 Canadian adults who have painted a wall in their home and who are Angus Reid Forum panel members. The margin of error - which measures sampling variability - is +/- 2.6 per cent. The results have been statistically weighted to ensure a representative sample. Discrepancies in or between totals are due to rounding.
