SHAWVILLE, QC, Jan. 31 /CNW Telbec/ - Unionized workers at Valu-Mart in
Shawville, in the Pontiac region, protest the bad faith of Loblaw. The
management still maintains the negociation process in a standstill.
Since the last meeting with the union the 16th of december the employer
has kept silent and did not respond to the union's counterproposals.
The employer pretends that the union's demands are unrealistic and will
put in danger its business in Shawville. However, the counterproposals
are the same as those agreed in other supermarkets. The union has even
offered to put them in place only at the end of the agreement. The
union has also asked the management to proove its financial situation,
by showing its books and submit them to an analysis by an independant

obtain good working conditions, says Karen Cartman, president of the

representatives who prefer acting for the company without knowing the
On unlimited general strike since december 2nd and having the support of
their colleagues of other supermarkets in the area, the 32 employees
are determined to reach their goal of a good contract.
The union, Le Syndicat des travailleuses et des travailleurs du
Valu-Mart is affiliated with the Confédération des syndicats nationaux
(CSN), the Fédération du Commerce - CSN and the Conseil central des
syndicats nationaux de l'Outaouais.
