Sunnymel deplores the acts of vandalism committed on the site of the future slaughterhouse at Clair

SAINT-FRANÇOIS-DE-MADAWASKA, NB, Nov. 14, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - The management of Sunnymel (a partnership formed by Olymel and Westco) deplores the acts of vandalism perpetrated in the night of Saturday, November 12 on the construction site of the poultry slaughtering and cutting plant at the Village of Clair, New Brunswick which caused several hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. "We share the incredulity and indignation of the residents at these gratuitous criminal acts, and we will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of our site and those working on it. We are confident that the investigation undertaken by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the aftermath of these events will lead to the arrest of the guilty parties, and we offer the investigators our full cooperation," noted Westco President and CEO Thomas Soucy.

Mr. Soucy said that these incidents would by no means prevent the work begun at the plant last August, which is currently ahead of schedule, from proceeding. This project represents an investment of over $40 million and will create more than 250 jobs in the Madawaska region when the plant, with a weekly slaughtering capacity of 450,000 birds, is operational in approximately 12 months.
