Starbucks Introduces Mobile Payment and My Starbucks Rewards in Canada

Enhanced rewards program and iPhone mobile payment option add convenience and value to the Starbucks experience

TORONTO, Nov. 8, 2011 /CNW/ - Today, Starbucks Canada launched the Starbucks Canada App for iPhone - the only Quick Service Restaurant mobile payment platform and the largest mobile payment program in the country. Available on any iPhone device, the new, free app provides Canadian customers with a faster, more convenient way to manage their Starbucks Card and track their My Starbucks Rewards status on-the-go.

Starbucks Canada App features include:

  • Pay for Starbucks purchases right from your iPhone

  • Check your Starbucks Card balance

  • Reload your Starbucks Card account with any major credit card

  • Find nearby Starbucks stores with the store locator feature

  • Check your My Starbucks Rewards status

  • Consolidate Starbucks Card balances

  • Access food and beverage nutrition information

  • Build a virtual beverage with the Drink Builder feature

  • Learn about Starbucks coffee

  • Search for a job at Starbucks

Starbucks mobile platform builds on the very well-received mobile payment rollout in the United States earlier this year, and the success of the Starbucks Card, which has become a significant method of payment in stores. Extending this program to a mobile platform will further enhance the customer experience and allow customers to conveniently manage their Starbucks Card and their My Starbucks Rewards account.

My Starbucks Rewards

With the Starbucks Card Mobile App, customers will be able to manage their My Starbucks Rewards status. My Starbucks Rewards is a new customer loyalty card program launched October 4th in all Canadian Starbucks stores. Replacing the Starbucks Card Rewards program, My Starbucks Rewards brings enhancements to loyalty rewards customers already know and love. The new program delivers added value and provides customized rewards that increase with frequency of use. Benefits accumulate as customers advance through three levels of loyalty:

  • Welcome Level:  A free birthday beverage when card is initially registered online at, along with card balance protection.

  • Green Level:  After using the registered card five times, customers qualify for the following benefits: free birthday beverage, card balance protection, free brewed coffee and tea refills, free flavour syrups and soy, a free tall drink of choice with purchase of one pound of whole bean coffee and exclusive offers to registered card holders throughout the year.

  • Gold Level: In addition to all of the benefits in the Welcome and Green Levels, Gold Level members earn a free drink after every 15 purchases and receive an exclusive, personalized Gold card. To qualify for the Gold Level, a customer simply needs to visit 30 times in a year - an average of less than three visits per month.

Almost one million existing Starbucks Card Rewards members in Canada were automatically enrolled in My Starbucks Rewards Green Level on October 4, 2011, and in the month since the new program launched, Starbucks customers have been using their cards more than ever, earning stars daily en route to a gold card.
