Scrambling NDP Last to Nominate All Candidates

TORONTO, Sept. 12, 2011 /CNW/ - Struggling to catch up almost a full week into the election campaign, Andrea Horwath's scrambling NDP is the last party to nominate a candidate in every riding.

The NDP is the only party - including the Green Party - surprised by the fixed election, struggling to fill several riding vacancies well into the election campaign. The latest NDP candidate in Thornhill, named days after the party spiked Barry Weisleder, joins other prominent NDP candidates:

Ajax-Pickering candidate Evan Wiseman, who has taken a strong stance against public displays of affection:
"Evan Wiseman, fourth-year year political science, doesn't mind PDA long as it's 'within reason.' 'I'm not a big fan of grinding and heavy making out in public, because it makes things awkward for people nearby,' Wiseman said."
(The Underground, U of T Scarborough Student Paper, January 26, 2011)
Durham NDP candidate James Terry, forced to apologize for posting "off-colour" comments on Facebook (Toronto Sun, August 17, 2011)
Chatham-Kent-Essex candidate Aleksandra Navarro, who is sour on the NDP's chances:
"I don't think we're going to see an orange wave here in Ontario"
(The Chatham Daily News, June 3, 2011)

Horwath is also facing criticism for breaking her public personal commitment to run more women candidates this election than the previous campaign.

Horwath fell short of her "personal priority" to run 43 women candidates.
