Safety-Kleen, NASCAR Renew Environmental Services Partnership

Company helps keep stock car racing green by recycling wide variety of
    race-related fluids

PLANO, Texas, Feb. 22, 2011 /CNW/ -- Safety-Kleen Systems, Inc., today announced that it has renewed a multi-year agreement with The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) as an official partner of the highly-popular sport.

Safety-Kleen has been an official NASCAR partner since 2004, providing on-site trackside support with its NASCAR performance cleaning products, as well as oil recycling and re-refining services to more than 200 NASCAR-sanctioned races each year.

Safety-Kleen has been at NASCAR racetracks collecting used oil since 1987, and last year collected and re-refined approximately 185,000 gallons of NASCAR oil at tracks and team shops. Overall, Safety-Kleen services more than 145 professional race teams and 65 tracks across North America.

"We're proud to be an official partner of NASCAR and excited to help them continue their leadership role in protecting the environment and making auto racing green," said Eric Zimmer, executive vice president of sales and service for Safety-Kleen.

Safety-Kleen is also an "Official partner of NASCAR Green," a category of sponsors that contribute in a substantial and measurable way to the sport's goals around environmental conservation and to serving as a green demonstration platform while creating jobs. Other sponsors in this category include Coca-Cola, Coors Light and American Ethanol led by Growth Energy.

Jim O'Connell, chief sales officer and vice president of corporate marketing for NASCAR, praised Safety-Kleen for its commitment as a "NASCAR partner that is doing good by helping the environment" and noted that "everyone in the NASCAR community owes Safety-Kleen a debt of gratitude for helping to keep our sport green."

Beyond NASCAR, Safety-Kleen is the largest collector and re-refiner of used oil in North America. The company collects more than 200 million gallons of used oil each year and, through its recycling programs, produces approximately 140 million gallons of high-quality lubricating oil. Safety-Kleen's services include oil collection and re-refining, as well as the management and proper disposal of spent brake fluids, oil filters, coolant, and cleaning solvents. The company also provides NASCAR with industry-leading parts cleaning equipment and absorbent products for cleaning fluid spills inside NASCAR garages.

    About NASCAR and the Environment

NASCAR, its partners and key stakeholders are committed to improving the communities in which the sport operates, mitigating the sport's environmental impact, and sharing conservation messages with fans. The sanctioning body is now leading an industry-wide initiative to reduce its environmental impact, while providing a proving ground for new green technologies. With the input of environmental experts and motorsports industry constituents to ensure the inclusion of all perspectives, NASCAR is implementing initiatives on and off the racetrack that demonstrate a dedication to protecting the environment. Drivers, teams, and track operators are working diligently on the issue of recycling, land conservation, and adopting alternative energy sources. Sponsors such as American Ethanol led by Growth Energy, Coca-Cola, Coors, Goodyear, Office Depot, Safety-Kleen, Sprint and UPS are setting benchmarks for their dedication to keeping NASCAR green.
