Robust growth on Canada's east coast makes new research initiative timely: MQO Research launches innovative product on Atlantic Canadian economic and political matters

ST. JOHN'S, Sept. 15, 2011 /CNW/ - Carolyn O'Keefe, President of MQO Research today launched Atlantic Matters, the most up-to-date information source on the economy, politics and other matters in Atlantic Canada.  The information is delivered through a monthly survey and report of what households are thinking about, and doing, throughout the region, with rotating features on hot topics for each of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The product will also be introduced this week to business leaders from around the country attending the Canadian Chamber of Commerce AGM in St. John's.

The subscription-based information is collected through a dedicated on-line panel (iView Atlantic), analyzed and placed online with interactive visual elements to enhance the reporting experience and engagement for subscribers.  A dedicated website will track changes in information monthly, segment results by province and alert subscribers of new information at any time.

O'Keefe said the report provides critical information for today's business, government and community leaders.  "Atlantic Matters offers subscribers vital insights into the thinking of Atlantic Canadians by providing monthly real-time reports on the pulse of Atlantic Canada on economic, political and other important topics.  What's even more unique about the product is its exclusivity.  The data is privileged information that is not shared beyond the subscriber list."

The Atlantic Canadian economy has diversified in recent years making it a big player not only in Canada, but in the United States and elsewhere.  The region boasts North America's fastest growing oil and gas sector, and is well-rounded with major interests in information technology, ocean technology, biotechnology and life science, aerospace and defence, and aquaculture.  And, the region exports half of its electricity production.

"As organizations pay attention to the Atlantic region, it's equally important that they understand the people behind this growth engine:  the 2.3 million people whose energy, interests and concerns shape the Atlantic landscape. Through Atlantic Matters, business leaders can stay in touch with the region, and ensure that their thinking reflects the realities of life in Atlantic Canada," O'Keefe said.

Elizabeth Brouse, MQO Research's Director of Product Marketing, said the new, leading research product will redefine how subscribers from around the country access information on Atlantic Canadian thinking.  "Ultimately, Atlantic Matters will enable leaders and decision-makers to adjust or reaffirm their thinking on important issues from public policy to corporate planning and community engagement."

Backgrounder - iView Panel
iView Atlantic is a proprietary online panel developed by MQO Research and is exclusive to Atlantic Canada. iView Atlantic is the only panel of its kind that has been developed by Atlantic Canadians and is fully administered from within the region. This panel consists of over 12,000 Atlantic Canadians who have agreed to provide their opinions on Atlantic, provincial and local topics that matter to them. To ensure the representation of all Atlantic Canadians, iView also includes a component of phone-based membership to reflect those Atlantic households who still spend limited time in an online environment.

The panel is actively managed by a dedicated Panel Management Team allowing provision of representative samples of the general population across Atlantic Canada and an ability to reach niche sub-groups of the population based on the range of profiling variables compiled on each panelist during the recruitment phase. MQO Research employs rigorous quality control procedures to ensure the integrity of its panel, and of the information it generates.
