- Jack Smit to be inducted into Canadian Credit Union Hall of Fame-

LONDON, ON, May 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Jack Smit, retired President & CEO, of Libro Financial Group has been recognized by Credit Union Central of Canada for his lifetime achievements in advancing the Canadian  credit union system.  Jack Smit will be inducted into the Canadian Credit Union Hall of Fame on Wednesday, July 17th, during the World Council of Credit Unions Conference in Ottawa.

"Jack is a passionate advocate of the credit union system, and a true representative of the co-operative spirit," said Rick Joyal, Chair, Libro Financial Group Board. "His vision for both Libro and the credit union system has significantly improved the way people bank co-operatively.  I am extremely proud of Jack's accomplishments, and the legacy he leaves behind."

Jack's career in the credit union system spans over five decades.  Over that time, Jack led Libro to prominence, in both southwestern Ontario, as well as within the national credit union system, by developing a reputation for quality products and service, innovation, and consistent financial performance.

The Hall of Fame Committee was most impressed with Jack's selfless giving at all levels of the credit union system and his dedication as an employee and volunteer.  In addition to leading southwestern Ontario's largest credit union, Jack also chaired the Boards of both, Credit Union Central of Canada, and Central 1 Credit Union (as well as the former Credit Union Central of Ontario), and was the primary driver in promoting the amalgamation of Ontario and BC Centrals in an effort to improve the central organization's efficiency and effectiveness.

"Jack is an inspiring leader and mentor," said Stephen Bolton, President & CEO, Libro Financial Group.  "He encouraged everyone at Libro to learn and develop; to feel empowered to make decisions; and he modelled Libro's values in all that he did, every day.  Jack built one of the strongest teams in the industry and a world class culture which I am privileged to continue advancing."
