Waste Reduction on the minds of those surveyed

RICHMOND HILL, ON, Jan. 4 /CNW/ - A recent Staples Canada survey concludes that we will increase our efforts to reduce pollution in 2011 by using more eco-responsible products.

The survey, which reached out to both business and consumer-based individuals, shows 62% of those surveyed feel that they should be more eco-responsible to the earth, and 76% are more willing to use eco-friendly products at the office and at home.

"It would be very hard for a person to get through an entire day without using a piece of paper, a light, or an electronic device," says Pete Gibel, VP of Merchandising, and Environmental Committee Chair for Staples Canada. "Products like these are used every day, but taking action to reuse what we can and reduce any item's power consumption will result in positive returns for the environment."

The survey also observed what panelists will consider while trying to be more environmentally conscious:

  • Returning ink/toner cartridges for recycling
  • Using energy saving light bulbs
  • Using eco-friendly products (FSC approved paper, notebooks, etc.)
  • Using rechargeable batteries

Staples offers a great selection of products such as:

  • Staples FSC-Certified Multiuse Paper: Extra bright, for high-quality images and text. Endorsed by the Forest Stewardship Council.
  • Enersaver™ Globe Halogen Light Bulb: Saves up to 33% of energy compared with incandescent bulbs. Is mercury-free and lasts up to two years.
  • Duracell AA & AAA Precharged Rechargeable NiMH Batteries (4-Pack): Ready for use out of the package, this battery retains up to 75% of power after one year

"Staples makes it easy for companies and working professionals to be more environmentally responsible, with our line of Eco-Easy products and eco-programs," says Gibel. "Our ink cartridge challenge, for instance, diverts millions of used ink and toner cartridges from landfills. We provide solutions that will protect the environment."

(On December 17, 2010, Staples Canada surveyed both consumers and business professionals, with 596 panelists responding to a series of questions that support the above data.)
