PSAC urges members to support Nycole Turmel in Hull-Aylmer

GATINEAU, QC, April 8 /CNW/ - The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is urging its members and the general public to support NDP candidate Nycole Turmel in the riding of Hull-Aylmer, when they vote on May 2nd.

The Conseil régional d'action politique de l'Outaouais, a PSAC area council active in the region since 2005, as well as the Comité régional des femmes francophones de l'Outaouais of the PSAC, believe Nycole Turmel is better positioned to promote a strong federal public sector that is able to deliver quality services to Canadians.  As a past president of the PSAC from 2000-2006, Turmel thoroughly understands public service issues.

Over the past few months, the Council met with candidates from the major parties and reviewed their election platforms. This democratic process has resulted in their decision to endorse Turmel. The Conservative candidate was simply not an option. If their proposed budget had passed, it would have had a devastating impact on the region's economic stability and public services.

The Council acknowledges the work of other candidates, but knows Turmel has a long history of defending public services which will serve all the constituents of the Hull-Aylmer riding well.

"With her knowledge of the public service, and through her experience and determination, Nycole Turmel will make an excellent MP of Hull-Aylmer," said Maria Fitzpatrick, Regional Executive Vice-President of the PSAC for the National Capital Region.

PSAC has over 6,000 members who are eligible to vote in Hull-Aylmer.
