OTTAWA, June 2, 2011 /CNW/ - The Canadian Wildlife Federation, along
with other charities, will be seriously impacted should a postal strike
begin on Friday, June 3rd.
CWF relies on the generous donations of supporters to undertake its
vital work to protect Canada's wildlife and the natural spaces they
need to survive. A significant portion of donations are received
through successful direct mail campaigns. The postal strike will impede
CWF's ability to communicate with many of its over 300,000 donors.
"Canadians can make contributions by calling 1.800.563.9453 or on-line
at CanadianWildlifeFederation.ca," said CWF Executive Vice-President Wade Luzny. "Donors who are most
comfortable giving their gift through the mail may continue to do so.
Canada Post will deliver the mail as soon as the strike is finished.
Donations support CWF's programs, including recovery projects for
species at risk, Project Wild, and Fish ways school programs, Canadian Wildlife and Wild magazines, as well as public education initiatives.
"CWF is very fortunate to have loyal supporters who care deeply about
conserving our wildlife and natural areas. We keep our supporters
informed about our projects, how their donations are being put to
work, and actions they can take to help wildlife through regular
updates in the mail," says Wade Luzny, CWF Executive Vice-President and
CEO. "A large percent of our donors send us their gift by mail. Our
capacity to reach our supporter base as well as receive their donations
will be seriously compromised with a postal strike. The longer the
strike goes on, the more it will impact our conservation efforts across
Many charities, such as CWF, receive little or no government funding and
rely on donations from Canadians to carry out their mission.
"We are very pleased to see that an agreement has been reached for the
delivery of much needed social assistance and pension cheques," says
Luzny. "One area that is often overlooked is how a postal strike can
negatively affect the charitable sector. We need the regular support
of our donors to continue our efforts to ensure a healthy future for
