majority democracies, Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Razak and the
Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Ali Babacan are coming together with
leading religious, business and youth leaders on Wednesday 23rd
February in a public call for moderate Islam to stand up and be
The call for moderate Islam to speak out against extremism and for the
Muslim world to embrace political and economic reform comes as events
in Egypt and Tunisia demonstrate the problems of failing to take
account of the needs of the people. Current events provide an
opportunity to embrace a socially and economically progressive agenda.
Prime Minister Najib, Deputy Prime Minister Babacan, ASEAN Secretary
General Dr Pitsuwan and the Grand Mufti of Syria are speaking at the
event 'The Global Movement for Justice, Peace and Dignity' at the
Conrad Hotel, Istanbul Wednesday 23rd February.
The event coincides with Prime Minister Najib's state visit to Turkey
22-23rd February 2011 where closer political and economic co-operation
between the two nation's will be discussed.
