Overall series winner will receive a Tudor Heritage Chronograph

MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 12 /CNW/ - On the eve of the first Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada race weekend, Porsche Canada today announced that the overall champion of the series would receive a Tudor Heritage chronograph, provided by Rolex Canada. Since 2009, Tudor has been the official timing partner of Porsche Motorsport, with engagements in the Porsche international one-make cups.

"Tudor and Porsche are companies with many shared values," said Victor Royce, CEO and President of Rolex Canada. "Both branded with a shield, they have the same foundations in performance, quality and respect for tradition. "

Montres Tudor SA was established in Geneva in 1946, around the time Ferdinand Porsche was designing the first four-wheel-drive race car, the Type 360 Cisitalia. The company launched its Oyster collection in 1947, while the Porsche 356 first rolled out in 1948. The company's Oyster Prince and Princess, waterproof watches with a self-winding movement, were contemporaries of the highly responsive, powerful Spyders of the 1950s.

In the early 1960s came the launch of the Tudor Prince Submariner and the Porsche 911, which became iconic models for both companies. From then on, Tudor became a watch of choice for Porsche drivers racing at the Nürburgring, Daytona, Monza, Le Mans and other classic venues. Launched in 1971, The Tudor Oyster Date chronograph, dubbed the "Monte-Carlo" by watch lovers and the "Porsche Chrono" by racing aficionados, remains an enduring symbol of the 1970s, when Porsche won the World Sportscar Championship and the Manufacturers' World Championship in 1976 with the Porsche 935 and 936.

The Tudor Heritage Chronograph, which will be the grand prize in this year's Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada, pays homage to the Monte-Carlo by incorporating many of the same design elements in a larger 42-mm case and with a modern self-winding movement. The satin-finished and polished steel case features screw-down pushers, a 45-minute totalizer for the chronograph, a bidirectional rotating steel bezel, sapphire crystal and screw-down crown. It is waterproof to 150 metres. Packaged with both a steel bracelet and a retro fabric strap, the Heritage Chronograph retails for $4,245. The watch will be presented to the overall winner of the 2011 racing series at an end-of-season reception and dinner.

The first race of the new Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada starts this weekend, May 14-15, at Calabogie Motorsports Park (Calabogie, Ontario), followed by June 3-5 at Circuit ICAR (Mirabel, Quebec) and ending the season with their American counterparts July 23-24 at the Mobil 1 Presents the Grand Prix of Mosport.
