TORONTO, Sept. 1, 2011 /CNW/ - We live in a world where people are more interconnected than ever before. Through online communities, one person's story reaches far and wide. So how do you harness those connections to build awareness for a worthy cause?

Camp Trillium is an Ontario organization that has provided help and activities for children with cancer and their parents for more than 27 years. They've just launched in honour of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, an innovative way to raise awareness and support for kids dealing with cancer. Camp Trillium's new program lets donors also known as 'ring-bearers', pay it forward by making donations on behalf of family or friends that benefit children with cancer and improve the quality of their lives.

Camp Trillium provides a place for children who've been affected by cancer and their families to escape from the outside world, develop life-long friendships, and create magical memories.

"With Canadians spending more time on online, it makes sense to start a social conversation that centres on kids dealing with cancer," says Fiona Fisher, Director at Camp Trillium. "People who join our community on have a chance to inspire their friends and families to help, get regular updates from our campers and volunteers, connect with us on social networks, and watch the rings of hope grow."

About, is a unique and simple charitable initiative that allows users to pay it forward by creating virtual rings that are built organically as friends and family join the act of making a donation on the website. Here's how it works:

  1. Visit, and click on the "create a ring" button to set-up your account.
  2. Once your account is set-up, start a ring by making a donation on behalf of a few friends, family or coworkers at a donation cost of $5 per person.  If you donate $5 to on behalf of five friends, your total contribution is $25.
  3. Encourage your family and friends to pay it forward and make a donation on behalf of their friends and online community.  If each of your five friends donates $5 on behalf of five more friends within their networks, your total effect increases to $150.
  4. Share your ring with your family and friends on social networks and show more people how a donation grows.
  5. Watch your ring of support grow right on the website - and everyone else can see it, too!  You can even explore the network of people in your ring, and see the real difference your donation makes. harnesses the power of community and links people together for a wonderful goal.

"We hope the rings create a chain of support and becomes a movement synonymous with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month," Fisher adds.
