Partnering with UBC Faculty of Dentistry
SURREY, BC, May 18 /CNW/ - A Vancouver area non-profit society is moving ahead with their solution
to advanced dental education serving community needs.
The Pacific Oral Health Society (P.O.H.S.) is celebrating their 'Hard Hat Event' on Thurs May 19th - on the site of their dental centre under construction at 15850 - 24th
Ave, Surrey. This facility will provide a teaching campus for all
levels of dentistry, and at the same time allow many underprivileged
community members to be treated with much needed dentistry at this
world calibre facility. Our beta test event on Dec. 4th in conjunction with the charitable organization 'Dentistry From the Heart' was overwhelmed with some 350 patients seeking treatment. This
convinced the Board and Stakeholders that there was indeed a demand for
this treatment and educational centre.
"P.O.H.S. is unique and important for Surrey and all surrounding
communities" says President and Founder Dr. Harry Dhanju of Surrey. "We
are excited to be working with the University of British Columbia,
Faculty of Dentistry, the City of Surrey, and dozens of other
stakeholders who have supported and made this Centre possible. UBC
Dentistry's involvement is consistent with their tradition of working
with and in the communities in B.C."
The 'Hard Hat Event' is a celebration of the project to date as we enter
the construction phase. We can now develop the curriculum to provide
both clinical education as well as much needed dental care by the
doctors who shall both participate and study at the Centre.
The Event begins at 6:00 PM on May 19th with a wine and cheese reception, with the ceremony following at 6:30
PM under the tents on site. Speakers include Dr. Chuck Shuler (Dean of
UBC Faculty of Dentistry), Dr. Marcia Boyd (former Dean of UBC Faculty
of Dentistry), Dr. Chris Zed (Associate Dean of UBC Faculty of
Dentistry), Mr. Marvin Hunt (Councilor - City of Surrey), Dr. Harry
Dhanju (Founder and President of Pacific Oral Health Society)
