Media is the Message at Digital Media Forum May 2-4
STRATFORD, ON, April 19 /CNW/ - Oprah Winfrey's OWN network is not the
only Oprah-affiliated entity coming to Canada: OWN's Vice-President
Business and Legal Affairs, Alan Saxe of Los Angeles, will be
participating in Canada 3.0 2011 May 2-4 as part of the Media &
Entertainment Sector track. Other media luminaries will be gathering to
address the impact of new media and technologies on the world of media
"The explosion of digital media, from on-line movies to gaming, as well
as availability of new mobile devices and technologies, has created new
regulatory and technological challenges that had not previously
emerged," said Kevin Tuer, Managing Director of the Canadian Digital
Media Network. "Canada 3.0 sector tracks will address the changing
landscape of mobility and digital content and hopefully provide some
strategies for meeting these new challenges and opportunities."
Saxe will be addressing the topic of "How will Canadian content be
financed in an 'everything, everywhere' world in 2017?". Saxe oversees
all negotiations and legal matters for OWN including talent,
production labor and digital agreements. He formerly worked at Warner
Horizon Television following two decades of employment with the Warner
Bros. family of companies.
The Media and Entertainment Sector track also brings back former Global
TV anchor Kevin Newman who served as MC for the overall forum in 2010.
Newman will lead a panel reviewing content evolution. Newman announced
a year ago he was taking a sabbatical from conventional media to spend
a year exploring the potential of digital media, and has subsequently
co-produced two documentaries debuting in May, is Executive-Producer of
a TV series filming this summer, and has advised various federal
agencies and artistic organizations on their digital strategies.
"With the ability to stream visual content anywhere, anytime, Canada's
most innovative producers of compelling stories are preparing to
compete in the emerging free trade in culture," the descriptor for
Newman's session states. Attendees are invited to meet the creative
pioneers developing unique content for varied mobile platforms.
Along with Newman as moderator, panelists include:
Alon Marcovici, digital media pioneer, who was the creative genius behind the
gold-medal performance for mobile media at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics;
Mark Allen, CBC/Radio-Canada's Director, Strategic Analysis, who will bring
ground-breaking results from the Media Technology Monitor (www.mtm-otm.ca) and examine impact of new ways to experience TV on portable devices;
James Milward, who founded interactive boutique Secret Location in 2007 which builds
large-scale digital entertainment and brand projects;
Karen Pinker, Willful Group, who has partnered with some of Canada's premier
documentary producers to begin creating content to meet unique needs of
Jeff Brenner of Nulayer, who with business partner Peter Kieltyka gives major news
companies a professional, affordable platform for digital publications
Canada 3.0 2011 features eight sector tracks that include more than 100
speakers and expert panelists, plus interactive discussions regarding
the latest in digital media-driven productivity gains in education,
