Ontario Nurses' Association kicks off Nursing Week 2011

Time for Ontarians to "Value the Invaluable"

TORONTO, May 5 /CNW/ - The Ontario Nurses' Association's (ONA's) 57,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals and more than 12,000 nursing student affiliates are preparing to kick off Nursing Week 2011 with a range of events and activities to recognize nurses' special contributions to health care.

ONA members working in hospitals, long-term care, public health, the community, clinics and industry will celebrate National Nursing Week with local activities to recognize their profession; many will also enjoy Nursing Week visits from ONA board members.

ONA's Nursing 2011 theme is Value the Invaluable.

"Value the Invaluable was chosen to remind everyone to recognize and celebrate the skills, dedication, knowledge and professionalism that nurses bring to their patients, residents and clients," notes ONA President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN.

"Our nurses deserve to know that their hard work is valued and recognized, and Nursing Week is the perfect time to do so," she said.

Nursing Week 2011 will be celebrated from May 9 to 15 across Canada. Haslam-Stroud is asking that members of the public join in recognizing the significant contributions our nurses make under increasingly trying conditions to ensure patients receive the care they need. As our healthcare continues to be under pressure and we face the loss of services, beds and front-line staff, it's our nurses who continue to advocate for quality care.

The Ontario Nurses' Association is the union representing 57,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals and more than 12,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
