Samco Solar Shows How Auto Manufacturing Expertise Transfers To Clean
TORONTO, Sept. 13, 2011 /CNW/ - The Ontario Liberal Plan has delivered
20,000 new clean-energy jobs for Ontario families and is on track to
create 50,000 by the end of 2012, Premier Dalton McGuinty announced
"Samco is using the skills and relationships they've built in the auto
industry to contribute to the rapidly emerging clean-energy industry,"
said McGuinty. "It's a great example of how our strong workforce is
helping Ontario lead."
Premier McGuinty met clean-energy workers at Samco Solar today in
Toronto. Since 2009, more than 30 businesses that have announced new or
expanding manufacturing plants. And Samco alone is creating business
for 23 suppliers, 95 per cent of which are based in Ontario.
"Samco has created 50 new direct and indirect jobs building mounting
systems for solar panels that are now in demand," said McGuinty. "Our
plan is building the best educated, highly skilled workforce around —
and that's helping to create a clean-energy economy."
"The Ontario Green Energy Act is instrumental in reviving general
manufacturing industry in Ontario, which was in decline for many years,
and the Ontario government took a leadership role in renewable energy
policy in North America," said Joe Repovs, founder and Chairman of
Samco Solar. "This bold initiative will put Ontario on the world
renewable-energy map and establish it as the leading jurisdiction to
generate clean energy where consumed and help provide a healthy
environment for our children."
Both opposition parties have said they'd scrap the Ontario Liberal clean
energy plan, killing the jobs it's creating. The Hudak PCs $14 billion
hole would also mean deep cuts to education, depriving us of the highly
skilled workers who attract companies like Samco. The Horwath NDP would
introduce a crushing $9 billion in job-killing taxes. Both would take
Ontario off track at the worst time.
"Our bold plan will position Ontario to become North America's biggest
manufacturer of clean technology. Only Ontario Liberals have a plan to
keep Ontario moving forward, together," said McGuinty.
