Ontario Cricket Association (OCA) signs sponsorship agreement with RBC Royal Bank

TORONTO, April 4 /CNW/ - The Ontario Cricket Association and RBC Royal Bank have signed a sponsorship agreement for the 2011 cricket playing season. The agreement is part of RBC's ongoing commitment to grassroots cricket in Canada.

The sponsorship agreement will allow the OCA to grow the Under 19 youth cricket development program and help Ontario's elite players reach their potential through extra coaching and higher competition.

"This is an historic event with some very positive consequences for cricket in Ontario" said Mohan (Mike) Kendall, President of Ontario Cricket Association. "Never before has such a highly respected organization made such a commitment to the OCA and its goals. This demonstrates RBC's commitment to cricket and to our organization."

This agreement further validates RBC's deep commitment to cricket in Ontario. "Our support of cricket is part of our ongoing efforts to build deeper connections with multicultural communities in ways that are relevant and meaningful." added Jennifer Tory, RBC's regional president for Greater Toronto. "Our goal is to create a legacy that will let people in Ontario's communities build on their love of cricket and pass along a cherished tradition to their children."

RBC's ongoing commitment to cricket

In addition to this sponsorship agreement with the OCA, RBC helps develop cricket infrastructure in many of Canada's vibrant multicultural communities. Over the past four years, the 'RBC Wicket Cricket' in-school program has delivered free cricket equipment and resources to more than 1,100 schools across the country, and RBC has contributed more than $200,000 to help municipalities, recreation centres and cricket clubs improve their facilities and better service the enormous demand for cricket programming in urban centres.

"Youth and Elite players are essential to the backbone of cricket in Ontario" said Mr. Kendall. "Thanks to the support of RBC, we can offer our cricket coaches and young cricketers better opportunities and facilities to practice and enjoy the sport of cricket"

Details of the agreement will be posted on the OCA website shortly.
