TORONTO, Feb. 1 /CNW/ - Online Party of Canada (OPC, www.onlineparty.ca, Twitter @onlinepartyca) is a new, internet-based political party
seeking registration in preparation for spring elections in Canada.
OPC's goal is to create a viable alternative to the traditional
political system. What sets it apart from existing political parties is
the modern concept, and the use of internet technology to bring
sweeping change to a deeply flawed system that gave politics a bad name
for so many decades.
Democracies pride themselves in their electoral systems. But one has to
wonder: why do we see so many incumbents and political dynasties (e.g.
the Bushes, Clintons, Trudeaus, Mulroneys), and why are the changes so
minimal when the political power shifts? As a compelling example, the
war in Afghanistan is highly unpopular among Canadians; however,
despite being started under a Liberal government it continues under the
"I envisioned a system where we no longer vote for people, groups, or
political platforms" explains Mr. Michael Nicula, OPC Founder. "No
specific person or platform will fit the voters' will across different
issues, leading to repeated disappointment and disillusionment with the
political system. Our party proposes that we vote on individual issues
instead of individual politicians, and more importantly, have our
elected officials legally compelled to implement what the members want.
The electoral system has to change".
Mr. Nicula opines, "Elections can't be truly democratic because there
will never be a fair contest. Some candidates will always get a head
start due to name recognition, money, or support from interest groups
or lobbyists. They can wage negative advertising campaigns and make
false promises, as the current system does not hold them accountable".
OPC wishes to attract Canadians who are disenchanted with the current
political system and want a fresh start. We offer an online voting
mechanism that is fair, auditable and continuous; members can vote and
change their vote at anytime. While all votes are equal, we offer
specialist opinions and strong leadership to encourage informed and
educated voting across diverse issues.
Join our online meetings every Monday, 10 PM EST, to discuss this topic
and much more. See www.onlineparty.ca for details. No registration is necessary.
