VANCOUVER, Jan. 31 /CNW/ - Stikine Energy Corp. (TSX.V: SKY) ("Stikine" or the "Company") announces that it has received positive
test results from Stim-Lab Inc. (a Core Laboratories Company) for sand
samples produced from both the Nonda pilot plant and from Angus
lab-scale process trials. Testing of all samples includes an initial
focus on ISO 13503-2/API RP19C, Section 11 "Proppant Crush-Resistance
Test", a parameter of primary interest for processed sands.
NONDA Project Results
The pilot plant products continue to demonstrate that Nonda 100 mesh
sand is better than the suggested crush test specifications. Recent
testing of Nonda -40+70 sand has also resulted in a crush fines content
of 9.3%, very close to the suggested maximum value of 8% (at 5,000
psi). A secondary -20+40 product is also produced in smaller
quantities from the Nonda material. This coarser sand had a recent
crush test result of 20.6%, higher than the suggested maximum of 14%
(at 4,000 psi). Management believes simple improvements to the pilot
plant's attrition scrubbing efficiency will result in achieving the
specified result in all Nonda sand sizes.
ANGUS Project Results
Angus quartz-pure arenite rocks were targeted because of their coarse
grain sizes and proximity to the Montney Basin. Initial grab samples
from the Angus Project have been processed using lab-scale crusher and
attrition scrubber at Met-Solve Laboratories Inc. of Langley, BC. Crush
test results for Angus -20+40 resulted in 11.9% fines, well below the
suggested maximum of 14% (at 4,000 psi). Angus -40+70 sand resulted in
7.4% fines, also within the suggested maximum value of 8% (at 5,000
psi). These initial results demonstrate the excellent characteristics
of the raw material, additional samples of which will be submitted for
further test work.
Stikine is focused on becoming a dominant frac sand supplier to British
Columbia's developing shale gas industry. The Horn River, Liard and
Montney Basins are large-scale gas plays led by major producers who
currently rely on frac sand transported over great distances. Stikine's
Nonda project is located in close proximity to the Horn River and Liard
Basins and the Angus project lies in close proximity to the Montney
