"I want to thank our volunteers for their remarkable work, which allowed the Foundation to give the IRCM an exceptional amount this year," said Hélène Véronneau. "Thanks to this donation, innovative projects on diabetes, cancer, and neurosciences were made possible, thereby contributing to the well-being of our society."

The net results from the 2011 Annual Dinner were also unveiled: $162,450. This amount will, among other things, serve to grant scholarships to IRCM students and postdoctoral fellows.

"I sincerely thank our event's co-presidents, Edmée Métivier, IRCM Foundation Board member, and Patrice Bernard, Senior Vice President, Financing and Consulting at the Business Development Bank of Canada, as well as all other volunteers who supported their efforts," mentioned Alain Mayrand, President of the IRCM Foundation.

During the evening, the IRCM presented the 2011 Merit Award to Gérard A. Limoges, Chairman of the Institut's Board of Directors from 2005 to 2011.

"We have a very enjoyable task tonight, and that is to pay tribute to a man who chaired the IRCM's Board for more than six years," said Tarik Möröy, IRCM President and Scientific Director, and Louise Lambert-Lagacé, current Chairwoman of the Institut's Board. "We are presenting you with the 2011 IRCM Merit Award as recognition of your commitment and devotion to the institute, as well as your active participation in its growth and development."

"It is a great honour for me to receive this award," mentioned Gérard Limoges. "Although I cannot share the medal itself, I wish to share its merit. In fact, my work was not done alone. I had the opportunity to rely on the collaboration of the dedicated volunteers who held positions on the IRCM's Board."

The event, which brought together nearly 400 people from the business, academic and philanthropic sectors, was hosted by Normand Brathwaite, and ended with a show by the talented Canadian jazzman Rémi Bolduc and his ensemble.
