TORONTO, May 10 /CNW Telbec/ - Jean Pierre Vasseur, president and CEO of
RES PUBLICA Consulting Group, is pleased to announce the appointment of
Catherine Cano, a senior consultant and media executive, as managing
partner of the Toronto office of NATIONAL Public Relations. Prior to
her appointment, effective June 6, Ms. Cano was director of program
development at CBC News.

Ms. Cano has had senior executive roles in some of the world's most
prestigious media organizations. Her experience extends across all
platforms. She was involved in the management of some of Canada's most
successful news franchises, and particularly news director of SRC
(Radio-Canada) News and head of all news channel RDI (Réseau de
l'information). She was assistant news director at Al Jazeera English
Prior to CBC, Ms. Cano worked as a senior consultant and was president
of Canovision, a US-based consulting firm which advised news
organizations on strategy, management, ethics, news production and
newsroom structure. She is a recognized leader in empowering news
organizations in their transition to the digital world and helping them
adapt to the changing media industry.

As managing partner, Ms. Cano will oversee strategic and operational
initiatives, including business development and strategic recruitment.
She succeeds John Crean who will now focus exclusively on his role as
national managing partner of the Firm.

In her capacity as director of program development at CBC News, Ms. Cano
worked on the Corporation's news programming on all platforms - radio,
television and digital. In particular, she was responsible for CBC's
news coverage of the 2011 federal election campaign.
Ms. Cano oversaw many newsroom changes including the CBC Ottawa
broadcast center's multiplatform integration and the renewal of RDI.
Her major clients included AJE, the Arabic satellite news channel
headquartered in Doha, Qatar. For Al Jazeera, while based in Doha, she
played a major role in planning and structuring AJE's newsroom as it
was starting to transition to a multiplatform environment.
Prior to her career as a strategic advisor to world-renowned news
organizations, Ms. Cano was a journalist and producer and covered world
events for SRC and the CBC national news service. Early in her career,
she worked on Parliament Hill in the Office of the Leader of the
